Abstract: After describing the artistic heritage of the recently-discovered ancient cities of Harappa and Mojenjo-daro, this book tells the story of the civilizations that followed through fifty centuries. Special attention is paid to the influence of religion upon the history of architecture, sculpture, and painting in India and the surrounding countries from their prehistoric beginnings until the introduction of European influences in recent centuries. Beside 300 half-tone illustrations, there are numerous plans and other line drawings, a glossary, and a full bibliography.
