Abstract: The book is a concise Lam Rim presentation of the ordinary tantric path (from the Nyingma perspective). The last half covers the "Completing Process" where we would expect the dzogchen instruction to come, and it does begin with general insight meditations for ascertaining the nature of the mind, and a direct pointing out of this natural state, but then goes on to spend quite some time elaborating the more tantric rooted completion stage practices of bliss; channels, winds and inner heat.... Finally the text leads to the practices that embrace the core (non-conceptual) meditations of dzogchen. The discussion of trekchod that follows is very practical and meditation based. And it is again clear that this is a pithy instructional text (and does in fact present a very clear picture of the dzogchen view), meant as a guideline and reminder for serious initiates or as the basis for an experienced Lama's oral commentary. Without this commentary this text becomes of limited practicality or interest even for the average spiritual aspirant, let alone casual reader! (Personally I get the impression of still warm coals laying deep under old ashes...awaiting the breath of a lineage holder to make them come alive.)
